A first year male Ruby throated hummingbird feeding on a Fireman's hat ( Erythr ina crista-galli) in preparation for fall migration. He is in the process of molting and the ruby feathers in his throat and just now beginning to emerge.
About Jim E Johnson
Nature and photography have interested me since I was young. I was inspired after reading a book, by G. Ron Austing called " I Went to the Woods". His story of falconry, raptors and nature photography is still on my bookshelf today. Over the years I have photographed a diversity of subjects but avian photography is my passion. Living in Louisiana allows me to photograph a diverse population of birds as my subjects.
