Artist's Description

Red-shouldered Hawk - Blue jays imitate them, crows mob them, this medium sized buteo is common in wooded areas throughout the east and is very vocal . Adults are easily identified with their orange colored breast and black and white barred tail. Their diet can be anything from small mammals, insects, frogs and reptiles and even crawfish.

Nature and photography have interested me since I was young. I was inspired after reading a book, by G. Ron Austing called " I Went to the Woods". His story of falconry, raptors and nature photography is still on my bookshelf today. Over the years I have photographed a diversity of subjects but avian photography is my passion. Living in Louisiana allows me to photograph a diverse population of birds as my subjects. My images have been published on several calendars, magazine and books, to include the Tennessee Conservationist, American Birding Association, Birding Guide to Louisiana, Louisiana Conservationist calendar and Bird Watchers Digest .
