A female Ruby Throated Hummingbird is using its long bill and tongue to extract nectar from the blossom of a Cross Vine. The long bill probing Into tubular flowers makes hummingbirds and essential pollinator for plants. Most hummingbirds have brilliant iridescent plumage . They are only found in the New World and are one of the only species that can hover and fly backwards.
About Jim E Johnson
Nature and photography have interested me since I was young. I was inspired after reading a book, by G. Ron Austing called " I Went to the Woods". His story of falconry, raptors and nature photography is still on my bookshelf today. Over the years I have photographed a diversity of subjects but avian photography is my passion. Living in Louisiana allows me to photograph a diverse population of birds as my subjects. My images have been published on several calendars, magazine and books, to include the Tennessee Conservationist, American Birding Association, Birding Guide to Louisiana, Louisiana Conservationist calendar and Bird Watchers Digest .
